Winner’s Interview with Diac Ciprian & Goja Ovidiu

Two friends from Timisoara, Romania, entered our Ace of Base contests expecting to compete against one another for fun. They waited for the Winners Announcement to congratulate the lucky Indaba member that was chosen…

Who would’ve guessed that they both would win?! We’re proud to welcome Diac Ciprian and Goja Ovidiu into our growing winner’s circle. After winning a car and $1000, these two gentlemen are eager to get back to our Opportunity Marketplace for more. Check out the interview we had with the pair!

Congratulations on winning our Ace of Base contest! You’ve won some great prizes, how do you feel?

Diac – I feel good, it’s a pleasant feeling to win such a competition.

Goja – Honestly, I didn’t expect to be the first, I’m still a bit shocked about the success the two pieces I competed with had. Because of this contest I gained more confidence in my work and I hope I will make it with my own productions. Everything was a shock, because Ace of Base is the band I grew up with and I’m very proud that they choose my remix.

You have some great in-song-commenting going on in your remix. What are your thoughts on all of the positive feedback?

Diac – I was happy that my work was appreciated by the other contestants.

Goja – I was happy to see so many positives comments, and I’d like to thank everybody!

How did you find out about Indaba Music?

Goja – I found out about Indaba Music from Diac. He was my teacher in the musical field for many, many years. This contest meant a big test for me and I’m glad I could compete next to him.

Is there a big club scene in Romania?

Goja – Yes, in Romania the club music developed very well, and this is why I choose to dedicate myself to this kind of music. I was also inspired by Romanian producers who knew international success in this genre.

What do you do in Romania?

Diac – I am a Director for a TV station here in town.

Goja – For the moment I live in Italy and I work in the musical field.

How did you create your winning remix?

Diac – I downloaded the voices and I listened to them several times.  I let my imagination do the rest! Then I put them in a minor key and modified the line of voices in the way I liked it.

Goja – First of all I studied very carefully the piece, in order to realize what I was supposed to do. The choice was difficult, because the Ace of Base style was a little different from what I choose to do. But I choose the club style.

Diac – I am glad I had the opportunity to participate in this special contest. In the past, I was the biggest fan of Ace of  Base and today I have the privilege that they hear about my existence. It is amazing! Thank you !!!

Goja – I want to thank the Indaba team and the guys from Ace of Base for making this possible. I also want to thank all those who voted me and to congratulate all the contestants, because I heard many good remixes. Hopefully we’ll meet again, with other remixes, in top 5.
