Anyone that has two hands and a finger can take a picture. It’s definitely not the most complicated thing in the world. The hard part comes with everything else (i.e. the lighting, exposure, setting, subjects, foreground, etc). Basically, everything has to work together. Now-a-days, to get started, the main thing you need is a DSLR camera (Digital Single Lens Reflex). The film camera is still a wonderful piece of technology and produces amazing photographs, but today’s time, people want everything instant, which the digital world provides. We’ll get to flashes and lights later. Right now, lets take a look at the inner workings of how to work your camera.

Your camera and you
Greetings Indaba Community!
My name is Sammii and I am a photographer. More often than
not, my subject is, in some form, a musical entity. Unlike most music loving
children, I picked up a camera and some film instead of a guitar and amp. The
idea of capturing a moment of time, seeing these, as others may not is just as
fascinating to me as I-IV-V and mixing the ones and twos. Whether you’re the
rhythm guitarist, mashup DJ, drummer or the backup kazooist you’ll need photos
sooner or later. Websites, albums, press; posters, flyers and anything under
the sun can and will involve you (and/or your band) in photographic, 2D form. Promoters, Label heads, fan, everyone
likes to see what their listening too. (Yes, we can mix our senses together).
Over the next few weeks, we will go through the various
different equipment that can be used in different situations, when to use
headshots, when a live shot would work better, programs that could be used for
editing, building your credentials and more. I will be here to answer any of your questions, listen to
any of your suggestions and will also be around to give you feedback of work of
your own.
