Working for a music company in NYC means endless opportunity to see top notch music in all genres. This past Tuesday, I walked into Red Hook Park in Brooklyn, while being eyed suspiciously by the NYPD. As I got closer to the stage, the cloud of smoke grew thicker. Surrounded by cult hip-hop fans and hipsters, I moved closer.

Lets take a minute to remember one of the many exciting moments from last year. Anyone remember this guy?
He’s Ghost Official and the grand prize winner of last year’s Camp Bisco-Battle to Play Bisco Contest. The contest consisted of submitting your original electronic music for the chance to by flown out and preform at Camp Bisco 2012! With his track “Devil Hands”, Ghost Official was chosen out of over 650 individual submissions.
Why are we bringing this up now? Only time will tell…
We are proud to announce that we are partnering with Telefunken Elektroakustik for a monthly mixing series. In this series, all the stems featured in the contests will be of LIVE performances captured on Telefunken microphones.
The first of these mixing opportunities features the song “Go Go Go” by Nicki Bhlum and The Gramblers. This opportunity is open for submissions from now until June 18th at 5:00OM EST. The winner of this opportunity will receive a Telefunken M82 Dynamic Microphone and the runner up will receive a Telefunken M80 Dynamic Microphone.
You can find the “Go Go Go” opportunity here. Be on the lookout for upcoming Telefunken opportunities.
On an early morning in April, an Indaba developer logged in to one of Indaba’s Listening Parties to find 26 party stragglers hanging out, all hoping that their track will be randomly selected to be played next. Beatscape had just won and his fellow party goers couldn’t help but comment:
Beatscape – it only took 14 hours
The Assaschan – AHHHHHH
The Assaschan – alright after next vote, thats it! i’m out!
Al Ayyoub – me too
Al Ayyoub – it’s like a gambling addiction
The Assaschan – the most pressured jukebox ever, this is
Al Ayyoub – i heard and commented and voted for hours
Partying all night? It’s going to be a tough day at work.
Enthusiasm, camaraderie and a tiny bit of addiction have been the general reactions since we’ve introduced Indaba’s latest beta. The concept behind Listening Parties is for every contest to get its own dedicated “room” where members’ music will be randomly selected and played for everyone who is hanging out.
A lottery playlist.
People can vote, comment in the live chat and for the more aggressive partiers, even rally together to skip a track. It’s a whole new way to engage with other members, showcase your work and get some constructive critical banter going… and sometimes not so critical, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! You can also show up empty handed and party for fun if you haven’t submitted to that particular contest. Indaba’s house is open to all.
Check out the Hertz EDM Listening Party to see what all the fuss is about. Once you’re there, click on the “rooms” tab to find other participating contests!
Please party responsibly
