Watch out Austin! Indaba Music’s very own Mantis Evar will be roaming 6th Street at this years SXSW Music Conference. Follow him (at your own risk) on Foursquare to see what he is up to and what events he attends. If you spot the man in black, take a picture or write a blurb about your Mantis Evar experience (you are bound to have one) and then tweet it @indabamusic.
There are going to be a ton of options this year at SXSW, but lets get serious- when you find Mantis Evar, you will find the party. Good luck!

Music’s been a part of my life for a very long time. If there’s such a thing as a skill-hoarding disorder – I have it. I started playing piano when I was 4 and the violin when I was 9. I loved both and took lessons for years. I was concert mistress of several string ensembles and orchestras growing up (including a fiddle group where I wore a cowboy hat). I was in several of my school’s musicals (on stage and in pit). I’ve also taken classical singing lessons, learned to play snare for drum line, and taught myself to play a little bit of guitar and ukulele. On the flip side, I’m a bit of an audiophile. My dad and I used to build sound amplifiers and go to ham fests to check out vintage speakers and tubes. We spent a lot of nights in our basement listening to jazz records.
Some Fun Facts: I love knitting. My favorite non-musical sound: animals drinking water. I’m addicted to the Internet, like everyone else. I have a replica of the record player in the movie A Clockwork Orange. Continue reading
