This year’s Grammy Awards featured no shortage of great artists in its nominations and performances, and we at Indaba are thrilled to count two members of our community among the nominees. Congratulations to John Legend and Vijay Iver!
John Legend saw his name on the nomination sheet five times this year, each for his work with Philly hip hop legends The Roots on their album “Wake Up!”, a record made up mostly of politically-charged protest songs from the 1960s. They won for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals for “Shine”, a Legend-penned song that Indaba members will recognize from our recent remix contest! (You can hear the great submissions in the Opportunity Marketplace) The album also won for Best R&B Album and Legend won Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance for “Hang On In There”.
Pianist Vijay Iyer also received Grammy attention this year with his latest album “Historicity”. “Historicity” received a nomination for Best Instrumental Jazz Album, one of the most highly coveted Grammys for jazz artists. Iyer has won the Downbeat International Critics Poll twice and all of his amazing works – including tracks from “Historicity” – can be found on his Indaba Platinum member profile!
In case we missed any talented Indaba members who were involved with a Grammy nominated recording project, PLEASE let us know. We would to talk about all the recognized Indaba members on the Indablog.
